BY CAR

Directions To Mana Beach Bungalows from San Jose International, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Quepos and Dominical.

The drive from the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San Jose to Uvita will take about 3.5 hours on the new, fully paved Carr. Pacífica Fernández Oreamuno/Costanera Sur/Route 34.

Before heading in the direction of Uvita,  prepare at least $10 US dollars cash or the equivalent in CR colones for road tolls.  You can pay in US dollars, but all change will be given in CR colones.  Ask the rental car agent to send you off in the right direction, which should be West on Route 1, past the San Jose airport. Drive defensively and be aware that the two lane highways often merge into a single lane, “Ceda” means yield.

Once on Route 1, follow the signs to San Ramon and continue straight ahead for 7 km.

Once you’ve passed the Dos Pinos Dairy Company (left side of the highway), you will  travel approximately 1 km and then take the right exit onto RADIAL COYAL. Upon exiting, you will circle back over the highway heading South (as if you had made a left off of the highway). After crossing over the highway,  you will go half way around the roundabout to continue heading the same direction you were going entering the roundabout. (180 degrees). This is a perfectly paved highway that connects to the new highway in 5 minutes.

You will reach another roundabout at the new highway. Take the 2nd right turn off of the roundabout to enter Highway 27, heading towards Orotina and Puntarenas.

Continue on Highway 27 through 2 toll booths.

Immediately after the 2nd toll booth you reach, take the FAR RIGHT exit to Route 34. Follow signs for Jaco/Quepos. This exit forms a loop and then you bypass a roundabout to continue straight to Jaco. Continue on this road toward Jaco for 36 km.

Follow route 34 (also called The Costanera Highway) until you reach the Tarcoles River Bridge, commonly referred to as Crocodile Bridge. This is a nice rest stop where you can grab a snack, a cold drink or ice cream and observe Costa Rica’s crocodiles lurking in and around the water.

Continue traveling south and follow the signs to Jaco and Manuel Antonio. This is the road that will lead you to Uvita. The towns will be as follows, Jaco, then Quepos, then Dominical, then Uvita. Once you come into Uvita you will see a Southern Pacific Grocery on your left and a little strip mall on your right, keep going.

*PLEASE NOTE: Google Maps often suggest turning down the dirt road, just past the Uvita bridge. This is a fine option, just takes a few more minutes and you have the dust and bumps of the road. Please follow the instructions below for a more direct option.

When you come upon the BM grocery store on your left,  you are nearing your turn. On your right there will be a Soda (Costa Rican restaurant) called Bar Los Troncos. There will be a green sign that says PLAYA UVITA –> We are the next right turn after that sign. The road is between a small strip mall with a Sushi restaurant and the luNa Furniture store.

Take the right and follow the road down until it dead ends at Pizza Express.  Turn right and Mana Beach Bungalows will be the property with the big blue gate, approximately 350 meters down, on the right hand side of the road.
